Talking about Computational linguistics
One of the most important language related resources is Computational linguistics, a discipline between linguistics and computer science about the computational aspects of the human language faculty, and it has similarities with the field of artificial intelligence. Computational linguistics has two kinds of components:
The theoretical component deals with issues in theoretical linguistics and cognitive science. It’s concerned with the linguistic knowledge and resources we as humans need in order to understand and generate language, but nowadays, this knowledge can only be managed by employing computers due to its complexity.
The applied component is about the practical result of modelling human language use. It tries to create products having some knowledge of our language in order to improve the communication human-machine.
Current advances in the recognition of spoken language let us improve the usability of many kinds of natural languages and they turn the machine into a partner. Therefore, machines can help people communicate with each other thanks to new translation resources simplifying human work. So, in my opinion, linguistics and computers must walk together in order to benefit each other from their respective advantages making the world communication easier.
